Kate Forster – Astrology in the Workplace

I first heard of Kate Forster over a table at a local cafe.  It was at the very depth of my depression and anxiety and I’d totally extended myself by saying ‘Yes’ to meeting up with someone I’d never met.  She spoke of a book called ‘Spiritual Business’, I went home, immediately ordered it and loved it.  Months later Kate presented at our local Business Women’s breakfast and I was in awe!  Kate was living my dream.  Not only that she was utterly charming, overflowing with good humour and wit and had modern way of mixing spirituality and work.  When this idea came to me, she was on the very top of my list… and I’m so happy she came onboard!  - Karly Nimmo (Think Beautiful founder).

Astrology In the Workplace

While I do not wholly recommend hiring on star signs, I am mindful of them when I am working with people. Each sign brings its special qualities to the role and task at hand. Knowing someone’s Sun sign can help you direct the staff into areas that they naturally respond to. It can also help you not to be surprised about their behaviours or quirks in the workplace. Your Sun sign is your individuality or personality. It also represents your potential and your focus in life. We see mostly people’s Sun influence in the workplace, so understanding something about your co-workers’ ego response is vital in your being able to work harmoniously.

ARIES
MARCH 21 – APRIL 20

Born leaders, Arians have a strong competitive streak. They like to charge into battle. Act now, ask later! If you say it can’t be done, let an Arian show you how wrong you are. They are restless and get bored easily. They can have low attention spans and can be resistant to support. Love them or leave them is the motto for an Aries staff member or boss: don’t try to change them or teach them unless they see the higher purpose. Highly entrepreneurial, they display lots of initiative.

Last but not least, Aries are born salespeople, so send them out with their targets and watch them go, go, go!

TAURUS
APRIL 21 – MAY 21

The Taurus staff member is usually very practical and stable. They love a process, a formula and a step-by-step program. Slow workers with powerful results, they reach success by sheer diligence and hard work. Taureans love the very best of everything, so any task where they get to make the work environment better in any way is right up the Taurean’s alley. Taureans fear change though: slow to adapt, they struggle and charge a few times until they see that the change is actually of benefit to them. For Taureans it’s all about control, so when they are not in control they freak out. Their fear of change can be good, as Taureans like to stay in the same job if they are doing well. ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ is what they say, unlike the next sign…

GEMINI
MAY 22 – JUNE 22

Geminis are the most creative of the star signs. Born communicators, they love variety and freedom to choose what they want to put their wonderful talents towards. If you need something done in a hurry, a Gemini is the one you want to give the job to – they get things done fast. They are, in fact, fast at everything: talking, thinking and creating. They love to try new things and are the kings and queens of multi-tasking. Organised and thorough and original, they are brilliant to have on a team, are quick with a quip and could sell ice to Eskimos. Pinning them down is hard as they are, shall we say, creative with the truth at times? They are also remarkably objective when it comes to emotions. Be careful with whom you team them, as they are prone to either flirting or making what they term a harmless quip in a situation someone else may find downright heartbreaking.

Do yourself a favour and place them in a role where they meet lots of new people and don’t use their love of variety for playing tricks on the stable folk.

CANCER
JUNE 23 – JULY 23

Bless the little crabs, for they shall always be at home with their shells upon their backs. Cancerians truly care about the people they work with. This makes them natural office caretakers. If there is a birthday cake to be bought or flowers to be given when someone’s cat has died, super sensitive Cancerians will pitch in with an ear or a word. When storms arise they tend to bunker down in their shells, and in common with Taureans, they can be very closed to change. Cancerians are deep thinkers and build amazing strategies around how to get things done. Once they hatch the plan, watch them bring it to fruition. Cancerians take their work seriously and creatively, and they can be counted on when needed. Cancerians love the fine life and everything to do with family, so make sure you tempt them with tasty morsels and reward them with family time.

LEO
JULY 24 – AUGUST 23

When a Leo is in the building, you will certainly know about it. Leos love attention and they love to show what they can do – they need to prove why they rule the jungle. Hellos and goodbyes are grand affairs with Leos, even if it is every day!

Leos are fabulous at leading a team, more so than any other star sign. Leos are born politicians. They have this uncanny knack of knowing the right thing to say to the right person at the right time. The spin-doctors of astrology, Leos also give the best compliments.

Leos have the gift of the mood elevator. When everything is good in a Leo’s world, then everything is bright and happy and swell. When things are dicey, the Leo is like the proverbial lion with a sore tooth. Give them praise and lots of pats and let them shake their mane and sound their roar, and all will be fine in your jungle.

VIRGO
AUGUST 24 – SEPTEMBER 23

Virgos came into the world knowing what they wanted to be when they grew up. As a result they plan their careers carefully and make every move as if it is a chess game. Virgos are excellent workers because they usually want to be where they currently are. They love to be of service and have a flawless attention to detail. While everyone is creating the big idea, Virgos are checking the spelling and keeping an eye on the budgets. They are fantastic at finely detailed work. Virgos are perfect for organising and creating processes. They work best with a Zen space around them and will often write their list for tomorrow the night before. There is no need to micro-manage a Virgo, they are micro-managing themselves. In fact, it is best if you can help them to let go of the project and move onto the next one. Reward your Virgo with something healthy, or a day off that forces them to sleep in. They often need to be reminded to stop work.

LIBRA
SEPTEMBER 24 – OCTOBER 23

Librans love to work in a team. They celebrate the team and have wonderful skills to see the balance or lack of balance in the workplace. They don’t like it when the workplace is unsettled, and they strive for harmony and understanding.

Librans are ruled by Venus, so they do well if they are surrounded by gorgeous things. Expect them to bring in a special air purifier, crystal vase and fine bone china for their green tea or a chair to use at break time. Librans are very fair and are great diplomats.

Librans scare easily, so approach them with a calm and melodious tone because they may well run screaming from the office if you raise your voice – it jars the fragile sense of balance that they are always striving to maintain. Librans have class and style, and know what is needed to bring everything into its natural order. They can be slow to finish their work but you’ll know it’s all hunky dory with everyone else involved. Librans are all about the relationships.

SCORPIO
OCTOBER 24 – NOVEMBER 22

Scorpios are passionate about their work when they like what they are doing. They are serious and devoted, and care at a deep level that no employer should take for granted. Give them something secret, investigative or that requires deep probing, and they’ll come back with all sorts of mysteries quietly uncovered.

Scorpios are not hard to work with if you leave them alone to get on with their business. Tell a Scorpio a secret and know they will never whisper a word, even under torturous conditions.

Scorpios make excellent researchers and will get you the facts on anything at all. The shadow side of this secretive nature is that you may not always know where you are with a Scorpio. They hold their cards close to their chest and have a better poker face than any other star sign.

Scorpios are the first to put their hand up when they make a mistake and want to learn quickly how to move on from the lesson to become even better workers.

SAGITTARIUS
NOVEMBER 23 – DECEMBER 21

Sagittarius workers are great motivators, and make great coaches, as they are eternal optimists. They love to start new projects but you may often find they will not finish them as they are so enthusiastic about the next load. Very trustworthy and honourable, they create a sense of relaxation in the team. This sign often inspires others. They are the optimists of the Zodiac and like to feel free – because of this they often wander in various directions.

Filled with honesty and integrity, they can be trusted and relied upon to champion you at any cost. They are especially great with those younger members of the team who may need some guidance and direction. The Sagittarius shows these workers the target and will help them take fire.

Sagittarius love to tell a story and can often be heard telling tales of yesteryear, where they took down an entire army of rebel fighters while on their Contiki tour honeymoon in Asia. Never mind that they are always the hero of their own myth telling – that’s all part of the Sagittarius charm.

CAPRICORN
DECEMBER 22 – JANUARY 20

Capricorns have this uncanny knack of getting into tight situations and coming out looking a million dollars. They are the mountain goat – able to climb any seemingly insurmountable obstacle, they will slowly but steadily get to the top. Have no doubt about this at all.

Capricorns like to be able to actually achieve tangible results and are super hard workers. They are ambitious, and usually have a successful life if they can find their particular mountain to climb. They love to be responsible and they love the rocky challenging bits – this is where they show off their fancy footwork.

Capricorns are often considered to be the workaholics of the zodiac – they are the first to clock in and they turn out the lights when they leave. If they have left their ego behind and channelled their ambition into your business instead of into themselves, you will be a very lucky employer.

Capricorns know quality and order and they work best when they are surrounded by this order. Excellent at the art of delegating, they can see the whole picture from the summit and this is where they work their magic. The best reward for a Capricorn is prestige and public accolades: lots
of them!

AQUARIUS
JANUARY 21 – FEBRUARY 19

Aquarians are brilliant. They are inventors and create new societies and laws, and social justice. Just don’t ask them to fit all of this in normal working hours. As an air sign they float around with their heads in the clouds, thinking amazing thoughts. Often quite the Nutty Professor, they have a million ideas and they struggle with ignorance when they see how easily processes or systems could be improved.

Often fashion – and trend-forward, they are usually wearing clothes at least two seasons ahead of everyone else. They know everything new and cool – why, they probably invented it!

Aquarians are often hard to be intimate with – they like everyone and everyone likes them, but somehow they remain detached. Many people think they are their best friends, but the best friend an Aquarian has is his/her brain and trusty notepad for writing down his/her stream of brilliance. If you want your business to move into the future – and quickly – put an Aquarian in a position where he/she can invent new ideas and things. In a heartbeat you will be on the astral airlines speeding towards an amazing future.

PISCES
FEBRUARY 20 – MARCH 20

Pisceans have huge imaginations. Often people think they are not paying attention as they appear vague and dreamy but then they’ll recount everything back to you with startling accuracy at a later date. They are mysterious and hard to pin down – better just let them create.

The Piscean loves the cause of others. If there is a point to be made that will enable the betterment of our future, the Pisceans will make the placards and come up with esoteric yet quippy slogans. Super sensitive, they do best in work where they can use their imagination and their creative streak to somehow make the world a better place. They like to feel stable and yet free at the same time. Whatever you do, don’t micro-manage them, just pop in to see how they’re feeling once in a while.

They are deeply loyal and intelligent, so working in a strong team is good for them. Otherwise they tend to get distracted and swim off by themselves, going around in circles. Pisceans are kind and caring and make people feel better when they have made mistakes or are having a plain old crappy day. Born listeners, they often have sage words of advice and can interpret a dream like no other.
